Avin Lucinda Holmes

2005-2006 School Year
First Glance
When I first laid eyes upon you my stomach leapt into my throat
Feelings that I thought were dead and gone stirred and awoke
TO look upon your handsome face and realize my luck
"I finally found my heart's desire" is all that I had thought.

When we went to dinner and started talking to each other
As if we knew each other for years, one topic flowing to another
I felt as if something had clicked, for the first time in forever
I was able to be me not a stranger not a faker just a lover.

I was able to talk with you about my past and present
We even talked a bit about our futures, and our wants
I learned more about you in that brief conversation
Than some people learn from others in a lifetime.

Colors of me
If I could be any color I'd like today I would be red,
Appropriate I must say to match my fiery head.

Or maybe I would choose to be a bright shade of yellow,
On second thought I think I'll pick something that's more mellow.

Green may be a good choice for me; it's calm and relaxing,
But green is the shade of envy, not the right choice I think.

Another choice could be blue; a somber, restful color,
It fits almost, but not quite, I need something truer.

A choice of black may make some fear, because it's dark and grim,
Associating it with evil and of course with sin.

Then again, white may work; it is a pure and simple shade
But all those who know me would see the joke of that charade.

To be any color I'd like, the best choice would be clear,
Because I have nothing to hide or anything to fear.
